Jay and I had our AOS interview yesterday morning at the Norfolk Office (leave all electronics devices, cell phones, etc in your car). Keep your keys with you, cuz you may need them later...
The interview was scheduled for 10 AM. We arrived around 9:30, passed through security, placed the appointment letter in the box and sat down to read and wait. Shortly after 10, our officer (cannot remember his name now) led us back to his desk. The interview started with both of us swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
We were asked the date and place of marriage, the date I entered the US and how many times I had entered the US before using my K1. That took us a while because between 2 legal stays while I was younger and the numerous times I've visited to go skiing, see my mother and Jay... well it took a few minutes, but we finally got all the dates down ( could have sworn that I submitted all that info with the I485, but so it goes ). Next were the "have you ever" questions from the I485 (Jay was chuckling through the list). He asked for picture IDs from both of us (passports and drivers licenses), then asked me what evidence I had brought as evidence of our relationship. I gave him:
* Bank statements for the last two months showing me a joint on the accounts
* 2 statements dental and eye appointments showing me a patient and Jay as plan subscriber
* Letters from three friends attesting to the validity of our relationship
* 2005 joint tax return
He also looked at a few letters and wedding cards addressed to us. About the keys -- he asked so see our house keys. Jay left his inside the car with the cell phones, so we showed him car keys and that was fine. He asked for photos. I had about 90 which he looked through and picked some from our wedding to photocopy. Finally he asked to speak to us seperately and escorted Jay out to the waiting room to wait. The questions were:
* Where was Jay born?
* Where was Jay born?
* What are your parents' names? His parents' names?
* What sides of the bed do you each sleep on?
* Where do you keep dirty laundry?
* Where was Jay working when you met?
* Did you have breakfast together? What did you have?
* Does Jay have children? Their names?
* When and where did you get engaged?
* When and where did you meet?
* Engagement ring? Did you shop for it together?
* Did you exchange wedding rings?
* Are you planning to have children?
I think those are all and he asked Jay the corresponding questions while I waited. After they finished, he came out to ask me which surname I wanted to appear on my green card. He told Jay that we should hear something in a few days and if approved, the green card would follow in the mail shortly thereafter.
It took about 40 minutes all told, longer than I'd expected. Still as interview goes, it was great and our officer was a nice guy. I didn't get the impression that anything was wrong, so based on what I've been reading here, I expect good news in the next 2-3 weeks (well, really sooner because I'm very optimistic). Can't wait because I fell into the trap of not changing my Social Security record to my married name before my I-94 ran out. I'm looking forward to having my US IDs in my married name (this split personality thing gets confusing to explain to people)
