Consulate Review: Bogota, Colombia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 11, 2011
Embassy Review : My fiancee's interview was scheduled for 7am this morning the 10th of November.
We arrived at the embassy just before 7, and walked up to the line with the BIG GREEN #3. We were immediately given a GREEN sticker and told to move to security.
Security was much like at an airport, but shoes do not need to be removed, and cell phones are kept until you leave.
After security you move to a line where you wait until you are told to wait in another line for a GREEN window. I think we were very fortunate that not only is the immigrant visa line very short, there were very few people there today for an immigrant visa.
Her turn at this first GREEN window didn't go as well as we had hoped. I was not allowed to be with her while she organized the papers to hand over. She did know exactly what everything was, but we were over organized and she was given a hard time for having everything separated and put into envelopes. (Here I would recommend having everything out, in hand, and in order as listed in the K1 packet)
We had a hiccup when she was told that her divorce papers were not a divorce. I'm still not exactly what it was, but it looked like one to me. She was given a hard time by the woman in the window for this as well. During this time at the first GREEN window she was asked, "How we know each other, for how long, what she does, what I do, where we will live, if she knew that I was married before, and what is my cell number?"
This lady was less than nice for the first GREEN window.
My fiancee left the window rather upset. She joined me, and we were told to sit in the seats near the coffee stand in front of the second set of GREEN windows. While we waited she told me what happened with the divorce papers, which worried us immensely, and also that she was not asked to turn in even one item of evidence of the relationship. We asked another couple and it turns out that they did not as well turn in any evidence.
So we nervously waited for her name to be called to the second GREEN window. We both went to the window when she was called. From what she said, I believe this lady is the consul and has the final say in what happens. She was very pleasant. I knew we were good when my fiancee was slipped a paper to sign, and was asked to have her fingerprints taken. We were at the window 5 to 10 minutes as the consul flipped through our documents and asked my fiancee a few questions. Mostly they were repeats from before, "what does she do, what do I do, how long have we known each other, how did we meet, how many times have I been to Colombia to see her?" She was told "felicitaciones" by the consul, and was given back a lot of documents. I went through them quickly and much of it was the I-129 that I had sent to UCIS, and the I-134 she turned in today.
We left the window, and went back to the waiting area to chat with another couple a few minutes, and then left the way we came.
We were in the embassy no more than 1.5 hours. Except for the scare and hospitality at the first GREEN window it was very easy.
Write me if there is something you want more details about.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
