Comments : We recieved an expedite at the NVC due to my pregnancy and our wish to be together for the birth. NVC Approved our expedite quickly and forwarded documents to the Tirana Embassy quickly. Had interview; went into AP and had requested additional documents..supplied what we could. Ended up doing a requested paternity testing for our daughter and visa was approved about 2 weeks after the Embassy received the confirmed testing results.

Consulate Review: Tirana, Albania
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : September 15th my husband had his interview at the embassy, 7:00 AM. He said there were probably 60 other people there, so it was a busy, full morning. We were granted an expedite at the NVC based on my pregnancy and so we got our interview a little faster than some others....

When he was called to the window, they told him he still had to pay $404 which we both didn\\\'t know since this is usually paid at the NVC, but since we were expedited we had to pay at the embassy. He didn\\\'t have this money on him, so he had to negotiate with the lady to let him go get the money and come right back (which they finally did let him do). When he returned with the money, he needed change as he only had $500 and it was $404 - she said she couldn\\\'t give him change! I think this is absolutely crazy...thankfully a nice girl that was there gave my husband $10 so we didn\\\'t have to loose $96 bucks!

He then had the interview with this woman. She spoke to him in English and Albanian...she was speaking fast in English and he couldn\\\'t really understand her, she questioned what language we spoke in and he said English. She mostly spoke in Albanian to him then... She reviewed all our documents, everything was acceptable..however, my husband mentioned I had given birth to our daughter just 3 days before and she said they need her ORIGINAL birth certificate. We met while on holiday in Greece in 2010 and she also requested some sort of documentation that he was there (travel reciepts, passport stamps, etc.).

Overall, my husband said the lady was NOT very nice at all. Since all our paperwork we had submitted was fine (and we were pretty confident about that) we didn\\\'t think we would get request for more info...but we did. They gave him a paper saying the visa was not given for certain reasons and had manually typed on there \\\"Original Birth Certificate for Daughter and Proof of Travel to Greece in 2010\\\". He said that No One got visa\\\'s that from the embassy. I would recommend to bring as much additional support with you to the interview and/or anticipate them to ask for something more. I understand they are just doing their job of trying to validate the marriage/relationship, but of course is still hard as we\\\'ve been apart 5 months during my pregnancy and now have a daughter he has yet to meet.

I mailed over the birth certificate and we gathered affidavits from some locals in the town where we met and my husband is going back to the embassy on September 22nd to submit everything and HOPEFULLY get granted a visa. I will update on what happens once he finishes there.

UPDATE 10/1/2011: My husband has gone back to the embassy twice now and still no visa. The first time, they had not received our daughters birth certificate in the mail, but we submitted affidavits from restaurant owner/hostel manager where we were in Greece. They took these but STILL requested something more (tickets, reciepts, etc.) Coming from a cash economy and going to a cash economy we don\'t really have record of anything else so we are struggling to produce something. They finally got the birth certificate when my husband returned the second time and we submitted a letter from his brother saying he was supporting him while there on vacation, etc. They STILL requested something more...and said to submit it via mail. We said we didn\'t have anything else adn they said to write a letter and send it in the mail saying that we don\'t have anything else to submit.

Finally, they requested we still submit travel documents or do paternity testing for our daughter; since we didn't have any other documents we did the testing (expensive!) and about 2 weeks after the Embassy received the confirmed results they called and asked us to just bring the passport to the Embassy next week. Finally!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
