Embassy Review : |
My fiancee stayed at a hotel close to the Consulate as we were worried about flooding. This worked well as she had time to focus and relax on the interview without being in her normally noisy household. Her appointment was at 8 am so she showed up at the Consulate around 6 am. Her medical envelop had become almost totally unsealed at this point so she stopped at 7-Eleven for glue on the way. I tried to dissuade her from tampering with it in any way, but had to submit to telling her to use her best judgement. Obviously, it worked out but I am still not sure resealing the envelope was a good idea or not. After entering the Consulate she submitted her paperwork which seemed quick and uneventful. Then she sat down and waited for her appointment. There was one person before her who was denied her Visa as it seemed like the woman did not understand what was going on. There seemed to be a lot of frustration on both sides of the glass. My Fiancee was interviewed at window 5 and she says the woman interviewing her did not really even look at her and was very stern. Although, my Fiancee says that the woman seemed like she could be nice under different circumstances but was just doing her job. Hard on the outside, but maybe soft on the inside. The interviewer asked the following questions (and more I will edit my review if I find out more questions):
How did you meet your fiance?
Did you meet on thailovelinks (yes)?
Did you use the website to find a boyfriend?
Why do you want a foreign boyfriend (Apparently they went around and around like this a few times because the interviewer didn't feel like my Fiance was giving her a straight answer. Finally, the interviewer said if you are not going to answer my question I guess we'll move on to the next one)?
When did you meet in person?
Why did you only spend 3 days together the first time you met?
How many times has he come to Thailand?
How many times did he come to Thailand to visit you?
What did he do in Thailand the first time he came but did not visit you?
When and where did you spend time together in 2010?
What do you want to do there?
What does he do (job)?
Did you quit your job yet?
What do you do? (She has not worked since she shattered her ankle at work last January and shortly thereafter I arrived to spend 6 months with her)?
Have you ever been married before? Kids?
Has your fiance ever been married before? Kids?
Has your fiance ever had a Thai girlfriend before (No)?
Really, he has never had a Thai girlfriend before (No)?
The interviewer did not say her visa was approved. She just handed my Fiance a slip of paper and told her to come pick up her Visa on Oct. 20 after 3. The interview was on October 18.
Early on the morning of the 20th the Embassy called and told her to come pick up her Visa as soon as possible as they were worried about flooding. When she arrived she was hassled a little bit about why she was there early but was eventually let in and given her 'envelope' and her passport with the Visa in it and a reminder to marry within 90 days.
All in all a good experience, though extremely stressful. We were surprised at the personal phone call to pick up her Visa early. We didn't expect such sensitivity. My advice and I've read it here numerous times. Just step up to the window and tell the truth. Also, if you have anything in your relationship (confusing or may prompt additional questions) be thoroughly prepared to provide/know the details.
It has been a long stressful journey. It is still hard for me to believe it all worked out. She will arrive October 26, if the flood situation remains stable.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
