My fiance and I had a good experience at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires. Everything was pretty easy and quicker than we expected. Here's the rundown of our experience:
We got to the embassy at 3 minutes before 2pm, which was our interview time. They called my fiance's name over the loudspeaker. They gave him two tickets that said "Interivew." We stood in a short line for security, which was similiar to airport security. You can't have liquids, gels, metal, electronics. If you have any of those things, you can leave your backpack with the security guys. I accidentally forgot that there was a tuning fork in my backpack... they weren't happy (and also had no idea what it was.)
Anyway, after, we took a number and went into the waiting room. My fiance was called immediately to a small room with a guy who wanted his finger prints. They had not told us that he needed fingerprints, so then he sent us back out into the waiting room to get them. They called my fiance's name immediately to get the fingerprints and then we went back into the room with the same guy. He asked for the original passport, the original military certificate, the original letter of intent, and the original birth certificate. Then he sent us out to pay the $350 dollar visa fee at another window.
Then we went to sit down and waited for about an hour. In case you are interested, there are ham and cheese sandwiches and cafe con leche for sale, which we ate. AWe were called by number into the interview room, whichwas another small room with only one chair. We shared the chair. The interviewer asked us if we wanted to have the interview in English or Spanish, and we said English. He said he was happy because not many people asked for English (he was a young American guy). He was organizing papers and stapling and stamping things and he asked us the following questions:
1. How did you meet?
2. When did you begin your relationship?
3. What does your family think of Carlos (my fiance)?
4. What does your family think of Samantha (me, USC)?
5. When are you planning to get married?
I, the US citizen, did most of the talking. The interviewer did not direct his questions at either of us in particular, and did not seem to mind who answered which question. He was very nice, just like all the other people who attended us that day in the embassy.
THAT WAS IT. Then he said that our visa had been approved! And we hugged and cried and dropped everything on the floor. Then my fiance had to sign another form, and then we were out the door to pay for the passport to be shipped with the visa. We recieved the passport with the visa and the supersecret envelope in three business days!
Overall, the experience was very positive and easy. The people who work at the embassy are nice, polite and younger than I was expecting. Feel free to message me if you any questions. Good luck. |
