Embassy Review : I'm happy to announce that HT had her IR-1/CR-1 approved at the interview today :-)

I'm putting down a few sentences about the process, in the hope that it may help someone else.

a) The guard allowed me to accompany HT into the consulate for her interview. Just had to show my US passport.

b) Arrived at the consulate at 7:15 am. After passing through the metal detector station and giving up our cell phones, we passed through to the inner 'shed' which had 2 lines - one for immigrant and the other for non-immigrant.
Groups of about 15 people were let in alternately from each line.

c) Once you enter the main hall, the first window that you come to is where they check your appointment letter etc and give you a ticket with a number on it.

d) The main hall has rows of benches/chairs and on the RHS, about 15 feet away are a row of 15 glass windows where the actual interview takes place.

e) Waited 15 minutes and HT was called in to do a preliminary check of her documents. I went in with her. The viet. lady asked for the documents that HT had with her. Also asked why the civil registration had been done in India - HT answered that that was where I was from - hence it made sense to do it in India.

f) After coming out, we had another 2 hour wait before it was HT's turn.
CO was a white male, serious face, not overly friendly, but not rude either. I accompanied HT to the window with the bag of evidence, and paused to let the CO see me, smiled and then went back and sat down.

g) HT was a bit nervous and her hands have a tendency to sweat - she tried several times and the viet lady interpreter shook her head and asked her to try again. I stepped up with a Kleenex and gave it to a grateful HT.

h) The questions were straight-forward and HT answered them with no problems - she had studied the information in the forms that I submitted.
Total of about 7-8 questions:
i)How did you meet your husband ?(on vietfun forum where he was doing some research for a trip to VN)
ii) Was your husband born in USA ? (No, he born in India)
iii) Why did he go to USA ? (On a scholarship to study)
iv) How many times has he met you in VN ? (4 and then proceeded to list the dates)
v) Show me your photographic evidence
vi) Where does your husband work ? (IBM)
vii) What does he do there ? (design computers)
viii) How long has he lived in Austin TX (since 2002 when he moved to TX from OR)
ix) Does he live alone ? (Yes)
x) What is his address ? (HT rattled off the address)

Officer smiled and passed the pink slip through the window - come back in 7 days to get your visa. :-)

HT squeaked in delight, and I came over to hug her.

total time of interview : 7-9 minutes. Others were taking much longer - 15-20 minutes.

Thank you to the members of this website for posting their experience - it helped us in our preparation immensely.
