Consulate Review: New Delhi, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 27, 2011
Embassy Review : Bad things:
1. phone staff are rude and not at all helpfully. We gave up after calling about 20 times.
2. Corruption - my husband was asked to take new phones when nothing was wrong with his photos. They have a photographer there in the embassy for just such a reason. R100.
3. My husband still had to pay the $404 visa fee and he only had $500 in 100s. so he gave that to the cashier who then expected my husband to leave a $96 tip saying he doesn't have change (even though he made change for everyone else). He also would not accept $400 and then the $4 in rupees. So my husband had to go find $4 change.

But my husband is used to the corruption in India so he still wanted to give the embassy a 5/5 because he said it was a good experience (except for the phone staff) I'd give the embassy a 4/5 and the phone staff 1/5.

My husband got there at 7:50 got in line and was told he could go right in. He turned in all the paper work ( I didn't turn in any documents to NVC because the case was expedited so I didn't pay the visa fee at NVC either) After waiting he was called to a window. He was asked:
how did you meet your wife?
- it was an arranged marriage
who arranged it?
- my dads cousin
where does this cousin live
- here in India
how does he know your wife?
-that uncle is married to my wife's cousin
Who do you have in the USA
- my wife
No, who of your family is there
- no one
You must have some family there
-just my wife and her parents
why is there such a age difference? why did she wait so long to get married?
-yes there is a 6 year age difference but she was going to school and then wanted to finish that and get a job before getting married.
Ok your visa is approved you will receive it within 2 weeks.

They didn't ask for any other supporting document because I had already submitted a lot of evidence to USCIS when I filled. (photos, phone logs, emails, etc) he had it with him again in case it didn't come with the file. He also had our wedding albums and movie, but they didn't ask for anything.

Hope this helps others, good luck!!
Rating : Very Good
