Had our meeting with the officer at the Atlanta office 6/5. IT went pretty smoothly. We were the first couple in there. We only hit one snag, where my wife didn't realize that "Communist Party" was the "Chinese Communist Party" which used a different acronym(CPC) but the interviewer had seen this before. He quickly printed a second copy of the page and had my wife sign it.
We didn't have too many questions to deal with, but we got a lot of the typical "who's your in law" type stuff. He asked if my folks liked her, and a few various and sundry questions but nothing too fancy.
When it came to proof, I came prepared. I showed him the marriage license, photos, etc. He wanted some more, so I showed him all the plane tickets we had for her commuting between Dallas and Atlanta before she moved here. He still wanted some more, so it handed him EVERY SINGLE TEXT MESSAGE WE'D EVER SENT" yes, my android phone saved every single text message, I dropped 600+ pages onto the desk. He decided he'd seen enough.
After that things went pretty fast. He smiled, and told us that since we'd been married since 2012 he was granting my wife a 10-year visa instead of the standard 2-year. Good on us I suppose. Not realizing that we passed, I asked and he smiled and said yes. We got up to leave, and he asked for my 2012 tax return, but I'd just brought the 2013 and 2014. Fortunately he let me fax that over to him, which I did. He called me later that day with a USPS tracking number, and we got the official card 3 days later.
All in all it was pretty good. He could have cut us off twice, once at the form that was signed wrong, and the other at the tax return, but he was nice about it. Providing the tracking number was a nice bonus as well, as I've heard horror stories in the past. Nice guy, fast interview. We were in at 7 and out at like 7:15. |
