Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 29, 2019
Embassy Review : My experience at the US consulate in montreal was quick and smooth. I had a 7:30 appointment and I showed up at about 6:45 and i was the 4th person in line. We stood and waited until 7:30 when a security guard came out and let us in 1 by 1 to go through security which is sort of like airport security. Don't bring a large purse or bag, and if you bring your phone or any electronics or anything they will take it from you and return it when you're done.

They double check your appointment letter when you enter and then give you a checklist of forms you need and what order. It is almost exactly like packet 4 so follow that and you should be prepared. You first go into one room for a few mins to arrange your documents this room has a booth for passport pics they cost like $10 incase you forget yours. Then like 5 mins later they brought a group of us up to the 19th floor to sit and wait to be called to the first counter one by one. In my case I had already paid my fees but there is a cashier there if you need to pay anything.
You get called to a counter in my case i was number 4 and I was called to the counter after about 15 minutes. They then individually ask for your documents, confirm your address and your partners address, as well as both your phone numbers. They also asked if we have ever been married and took my fingerprints. Then you're asked to sit down again. About another 5-10 mins later I was called up to interview. I took an oath and then she asked like 5 questions, when/where we met, if my parents approve of us, how often we see each other, where petitioner works/what he does for work, and if i plan to work in the usa (i said once I get my work authorization) and finally she said she notices a lot of trips to the USA so she asked how often we get to see each other (once a month)
The whole interview took around 5-10 mins. She then said shes going to approve it and gave me a form to read about domestic violence, and about what to do with a k1 visa. I was there for less than a hour total. They never asked for any other documents besides whats listed in packet 4 plus medical exam even though i brought extra just in case. So happy to be done with this part of the process and focus on getting married.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
