Comments : Some quick comments that might be helpful for other people going through this process in Brazil:
- I took all of my vaccines for free ahead of time using the universal healthcare system (SUS). It can save you quite a bit of money.
- The medical exam in Sao Paulo was quick and easy. Most of the time I was alone in the room waiting for the doctor to finish completing my form and come into the room. He performed a basic physical examination and was very helpful explaining what exams I would do next and all about the process. They provide a copy of your vaccination records that we need for filing AOS later on.
- At the Consulate, they did ask for my petitioner's biographical passport page copy, which is not listed in the instructions. Also, I had no issues with a scanned version of the I-134f (no wet signature). They did not ask me for any other proof of relationship or anything like that, but I did see someone being asked exactly that.
- I did not wait for the email from the Consulate before paying the fee and scheduling my Interview. As soon as it got the Ready status in the CEAC website, I booked it, and it was already booked all the way through the first week of February (booked in late December).
- There is no Packet 3 or 4 for Brazil. The Consulate will send you an email with instructions and that's it.
- My interview was in Portuguese. The CO didn't even ask me about what language we communicated in or anything, but I did see a lot of people being asked that question and being interviewed in English. I don't know what criteria they use for that.
- I chose to pick up the visa at one of their Centers (CASV). Although I picked it up on the 26th, it actually got ready for pickup on the 20th. A good option if you live close to one, as it seems to be faster.

Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 28, 2019
Embassy Review : The Consulate location in Rio de Janeiro is very convenient and close to the airport. Upon arrival, I informed the employee organizing the line outside the Consulate that I was there for a K1 interview and he directed me to go inside. The immigrant visa interview process is completely separated from the regular tourist visa and has 3 parts - first you fill a form with personal data and organize the documents in a certain order, whic they then check and remove unnecessary items. After that, another employee receives your documents and confirms some of your info. The longest part is the waiting for the actual interview - the third and final step. The interview itself is relatively quick, and it can be done in English or Portuguese.

Overall the Consulate is very organized and the employees are helpful and polite.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
