Interview
Checked in 15 min prior to appointment.
Was called in by an older gentleman. In the hallway he said “Okay Applicant we’re going to go straight and talk about the civic questions.” I asked if my wife can enter and he said “No it’s for you, this is not GC it’s for Citizenship” in a very kind tone. As soon as I walked in he asked the questions and indicated for me to sign a document.
Asked:
1. Who is Governor of your State?
2. Why did the colonies fight the British?
3. What does the Constitution do?

He saw my document bundle, took it in his hand and said “This is too much” and gave it right back. He said he didn’t need anything else from me and that my case is approved, gave me the Approval Notice with Oath to be scheduled at a later date. Since it was a Saturday that department was closed. He stood up to walk me out and remembered to at least go through procedural routine.

Event Description

He arrived an hour early but they let him line up 15 minutes prior to appt. Dressed semi casual gray jeans, pink collard short sleeve buttoned shirt, brown dress shoes, clean haircut, trimmed facial hair. He presented the required appt letter, DS-260 receipt, and original civil documents at the outside window. He then went through security and proceeded to a secondary window inside. That's where he presented original I-864 and passport. The clerk looked over it and immediately said he'll need a co-sponsor. He proceeded to sit in the waiting room for 3 hours. A name similar to his was called earlier, he went to the inner window to verify if it was his name but the clerk said no. It later turned out it was his name and the clerk spoke up and said they made a mistake earlier, wich is why he was second to last. Last was a K1 Moroccan with Moroccan.

They interview in open lobby windows standing. His CO was a Caucasian middle aged man, bland demeanor. They greeted each other with a simple hello.
1. Who's your petitioner
2. How did you meet?
3. What was your wife trying to learn?
4. What are the dates of her visits?
5. How many days did she stay?
6. What is your date of marriage?
7. Did you have a big or small wedding?
8. Who attended the wedding?
9. How many tables?
10. Did you have a honey moon?
11. When was your wife's last visit?
12. What does your family think of your relationship?
13. Why did she divorce the previous spouse?
14. Do you plan on having children?
15. What religion will your children follow?
16. What does your wife do for a living?
17. What will you do in the U.S.?
19. You will need a co-sponsor.
He gave him an alternative version of 221g with sponsor highlighted.
20. Are you registered with Aramex?
He was about to hand him the paper and then asked
21. Do you have the first conversation on the language app?
CO: Wrote on 221g to bring 1st conversation and verbally instructed him. Then he politely said to please bring more pictures.
A: Are you going to return my passport?
CO: No, just bring your items to Aramex and you're good to go.
A: So you're keeping my passport?
CO: Yes, everything is well.

Walking out the clerk very pleasantly told my husband "you're good, your case is easy just turn in the documents and you'll have your visa".

Observations:
-Many were denied, placed in AP, a few were given the modified 221g like us. He noticed 2 APPROVED. (6) K1 were denied and (1) CR1 was approved from what he could observe.
-He noticed that MANY did not speak English well, stuttered, and/or didn't know the answer to questions like "What does your wife do for a living?" "When did you meet?". These were denied including those that used translators.
-My husband presented confident and relaxed, made eye contact. He said it was more like a conversation.
-The questions come straight from the evidence and information you provided.
-The cafe across the street is closed so plan on going elsewhere. I waited a block over.

Thank you for providing a detailed description for the interview. I do have a question as I’m concerned they may say we will need a co-sponsor as I’m currently meeting the financial income requirements but previous years I was not. Did your Income meet the requirement for current and previous years?
Josie333 on 2018-10-17 said:
2015 I met, 2016 I met, 2017 I did not meet, I provided stubs and employer letter and still they requested a sponsor.

Thank you so much for your detailed review. Spouse and I currently awaiting interview dates. And we’re kind on the same boat. I met requirements previous years except for now as I took a leave of absence to help my children. However, I included my assets to meet the requirements for this year. With that we have more than enough... I’m a bit concerned now...Can you tell me if you included any assets? or did the CO not even consider them and simply asked for a joint sponsor?

From my experience they didn't look at the assets hat my husband has but asked me to add a co-sponsor which was myself in this case - we included my bank account and my current job's income.

-I apologize for not answering sooner. I included bank accounts, business account, letter from employer, paystubs for a year meeting requirement, disability insurance payments and they didn't even look at the evidence. They CO stated they only accept Tax Returns. -I submitted a new I-864 and 2018 Tax Return with W2 and they rejected it requesting transcripts in addition. -I then submitted 2018 Tax Transcripts about a month ago. The CO called my husband last week asking for clarification on the transcript since the requested a joint sponsor. The CO stated he would contact my husband for an update. We're still in AP waiting.
Josie333 on 2019-04-16 said:
@Dbase I met the income requirement for all previous years except 2017. The CO only wanted the current year Transcript so it was 2017 he was intetested in.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
