Consulate Review: Frankfurt, Germany
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 28, 2013
Embassy Review : My appointment time was 8:30. I arrived around 8:20 and got into the "Other Services" line (the one on the right). After checking in, I had to go through a security check (you are allowed to bring food and beverages in as long as they are not in glass bottles) and then entered the waiting room, where I had to wait in the far right corner. After about fifteen minutes, a nice German lady called me to the first window and collected my passport and photos. I then had to sit down again. After another ten minutes I was called to another window, and a German guy went through my papers with me. He explained the procedures for the K1 visa to me (like you have to get married within 90 days) and showed me a sample of the sealed envelope and medical that I would receive after the visa has been issued. I was then to sit down again. I then waited for another hour until I was called for the final interview. This time I talked to an American consular officer in English. At first he was not very friendly and responded very harshly when I asked a question about our petition. He became more friendly during the course of the interview, though. Questions asked:

- How did you meet your fiance?
- Where does your fiance live?
- How many times did you visit your fiance in the States? When was that?
- How many times did your fiance visit you in Germany? When?
- When did you get engaged? How did that happen?
- What do you do for a living?
- What does your fiance do for a living?
- Does your fiance still live with his parents? Where will you live?

Then a little bit of small talk, and that was about it. He told me that he would approve my visa and gave me back my originals. The visa arrived a few days later.

POE Review: Newark
Event Description
Entry Date : 2013-01-18
Embassy Review : *** Please note this is a review about the New York SEAPORT - it hasn't been added to the list of POEs yet, so I chose Newark instead.***

I entered the U.S. by cruise ship through the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York. Immigration took place inside the cruise terminal. Most of my paperwork was processed right on spot by a friendly immigration officer. He asked when and where the wedding would take place, stamped my passport and looked through my papers. He also told me that I have 90 days to get married. He then took me to another office, where he handed my passport and papers to another officer. I waited for about 5 minutes, until I was called and (again) asked when the wedding would take place. Got my passport back, was told "Congratulations" - and off I went. The whole immigration process took about 20 minutes to complete. All in all a very pleasant experience
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
