Comments : Point of Entry (PoE) was JFK, New York and I was accompanying my wife. I don't think this could be any more simpler. On arrival went to the Immigration checkpoint for non-immigrants with my wife and asked theon CBP officer if this is the right window for a new immigrant. The officer said, yes, I can take it. Then he asked me if she's my wife and I said yes. After than he tore the package, keyed in some info in the computer, asked my wife to put her fingers for impression, did the eye scanning, stamped her passport wiht the entry seal, and told her to go to another counter in the back. By the way, he also stamped my passport as well.

So went to the second counter with papers and we were the only people in there. The officer quickly went over the papers, asked if I can give an extra photo (which I had, more than one :-) ) and then took the impression of her index finger (ink) and told us we are all done. I couldn't resist and said "I heard so many horrible stories about the PoE and never thought it would be this simple". The officer smiled and said that depends on the papers we get here, number of people in here and of course the officer.

And I walked out with my head high, a large smile on my face.....

Comments : My wife changed her last name.

She decided to take my last name and all my documents had her info with her maiden name. After reading some confusing information and talking to few people, I decided to submit the I-751 with all the proofs with her maiden name and only the form (I-751) had my last name (which she took). Thankfully her application was approved without any interview and I am hoping to get the new Permanent Resident card with the changed last name in few weeks. So what I wanted to say is, this can happen. Just the way, you can change your last name during citizenship, you can change while removing condition as well

Bio. Appt. : 2014-07-11
Interview Date : 2014-10-23

Oath Ceremony : 2014-10-23
Comments : Unlike some other places Infwrview and Oath ceremony was completed the same day. Though the day was long and painful but I guess adrenalin kept is moving and we were glad to have this completed the same day. The people at Newark were quite nice and friendly. The interview took less than 4 minutes for my wife who was but nervous. She came out gloating saying it was lot simpler than she thought. I guess this is the end for me on this application. I will surely continue to visit this site for many more years to come. My heartiest thanks to all who helped me to pass troubling time and when i needed some suggestion. Can't imagine how this journey would be without VJ. Thanks to all again from the bottom of my heart.

Embassy Review : I am just stating the experience on behalf of my wife.

Her experience wasn't bad at all rather it was way much better than she anticipated. Everything that was asked from her was relevant and we prepared well for those questions. Anyway, from landing in the embassy door step and wait outside in a line to coming out from the embassy took around 2 hours, which was incredibly good.

Interview Time was at 8:00 AM and she was asked to appear 30 minutes before the interview time.

Reached at the embassy little before 7:00 PM. The street was clear and there wasn’t much traffic, hence reached little earlier than anticipated

She along with the other candidates were taken inside around 7:20 AM. They were reminded that no cell phone was allowed and all went through the metal detector. After settling down, she was called at counter 1 where she submitted the interview letter, her passport and 2 passport size photograph. The gentleman was courteous and while sorting out those papers asked few basic questions. At the end he returned the medical report back to her and suggested to pick up the original papers from the CO.

She came back and waited for 10-15 minutes and was called for finger printing in window 2. This was quick and seemless and after that waiting started again.

Fortunately she didn't have to wait for long as well. After 10-15 minutes she was called again at window 3. The CO was a white guy who was really polite and courteous to her. He decided to continue the interview in Bengali (could be bit broken but was good enough for her)

He asked some really basic questions regarding our marriage, when we met, what do I do and so on, something similar to what she was asked earlier on window 1. Also wanted to see some of our wedding pictures. Right after seeing the pictures, the CO focused on his PC and after few minutes told her "Congratulations, you are approved". My wife profusely thanked the CO and asked for the originals. Even though there was bit of confusion finding all the originals, but I guess that's not something outrageous and is understandable. She she came out before 10:00 AM.

As per her, people were courteous and helpful, environment was clean and the process was smooth. In her view she was happy with everything. I guess the joy transpired to everything else but I will honor her judgement. It was all good at the end of the morning.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
