The visa interview was very quick. I am the main earner in our relationship, so I was asked about how we will support ourselves. I showed a job offer letter conditional on EAD and proof of savings, which is what they wanted. Visa issuance took three weeks. I assume this was a DHS name check triggered by Russian nationality. Was afraid it was going to get stuck in AP hell, but it ended up being only a week's delay over the estimate. On crossing, the CBP officer was very thorough. He wanted to see my Russian passport (on top of the Canadian one which had my K1 visa), and read my job offer very thoroughly. Also standard questions about the wedding, relationship, etc. The health documents and the approved i-129f packets were also checked in detail. Overall, the process was professional and efficient -- cleared the border in around 45 minutes. | 2024-03-06 | ||||
