To do Direct Consular Filing, you must legally have been in Thailand for a minimum of 6 months, not on a tourist or educational visa (Non-Imm "O" is ok). Paid for submission across the street at the embassy with a credit card, then back over to the USCIS office with the reciept. Very easy. We have to get a Japanese police report for the next step...that can take up to 3 months, so if there is a delay in submitting the next packet, we expect it to be from that wait. Approval notice for I-130 sent out on September 02 and then sent back as undeliverable because of our lazy mail carrier. USCIS called me to let me know and I sent them an alternate address to send the notice to. They resent the notice and it was received about a week later. Now we have to wait on the Japanese police clearance...should be here by mid-november. Received Japanese police clearance in 1.5 months instead of the 3 months they say to allow. Had to wait on some paperwork from the US, and mailed in Packet 3 on 25 Nov 2011. Interview date assigned on 13 Jan 2012 (not bad considering the recent flooding in Bangkok, and the Christmas and New Years holidays). 2018-03-06
