Loni LL & JJ Canada Texas California Vancouver, Canada 2015-10-28 2015-11-04 2015-12-04 2016-01-19 2016-01-21 2016-01-28 2016-02-03 2016-02-03 2016-02-04 2016-03-01 2016-03-21 2016-03-25 2016-05-05 125* 7 30 88 The officers at the North Dakota/Manitoba border (Walhalla) were very angry and rude to us that we were coming through on their shift. They kept coming back to us saying we were missing papers from the envelope I gave them. It was a sealed envelope from the embassy. Everything they needed should be in there. They also kept coming back and quizzing us with questions about our relationship, asking for the exact number of times each of us went to visit the other and the exact dates. They had never done a k1 before and we were scared that they would not let us through. They made us wait three hours before finally letting us go. It was very stressful, worrisome and overall the worst experience I've had entering the United States. I will never cross at that border crossing ever again. 2017-05-10

I had called that exact border crossing the week before to make sure I can cross there with a K1 packet and was told that I absolutely would be able to do that. However, the women working that day were in such a bad mood and were mad that we came through on their shift because they did not know how to process the K1 packet that I handed them. Because I was worried about them messing it up, I asked if I may enter at a different border crossing, but they refused to let me leave. We were bombarded with questions by the officers, but it felt like an interrogation. One officer kept coming back saying that I was missing papers from the packet I handed them. It was a sealed packet from the embassy. I did not open it to remove anything. I did everything by the book and I felt, after waiting so long to be with my fiance, that they were going to screw it all up. Every now and then they came out to angrily ask us questions as well as repeatedly asking for other documentation. I was adamant that I didn't receive anything else to give them other than what was in the sealed packet. I was so sick to my stomach from worry. After three hours, they finally let us through. It left me sick with stress for the rest of the day. We were finally through, but I couldn't relax. It was too much. 2020-08-06

Our first interview was approximately 10 minutes long and was humiliating at best. Interviewed with assistant consulate in open stall with other applicants sitting there to hear all. She denied us on the premise that original marriage papers were not provided. Which in actuality had been with the packet. I explained what procedure we used was from directions online - she said they don't use that procedure, so we were denied. We were to supply them with appropriate paperwork and then it was to be reviewed that same day and approval would be sent out. Not having the funds to remain in hotel in Vancouver, we flew back to Calgary to wait for answer. Most frustrating experience we have ever experienced. Couldn't leave fiance in Calgary to return home because at this point I was nearing nervous breakdown. Daughter was going to fly to Calgary to assist my return to US. Finally after daughters contacted my US congressman. His office had number to get through to Head Consulate, he claimed to just be approving paperwork as he spoke to congressman. Took several days to get paperwork back to us so we were finally able to get flight to US. Should have followed US attorny's advice to just have finance stay here without all of the political bullcrap, but didn't want to have to look over our shoulder at every turn. This also would have meant that fiance would never have been able to return to US if he had emergency with family still in Canada. Went the correct way, but was most agonizing experience ever. Did have a beautiful wedding in spite of trauma. Both families were there and the pain was behind us. Nearing our first anniversary and happy as can be. Follow directions completely, as we had, but be prepared for harassment and disappointment along the way. God bless all of you in your journey! 2010-01-04
