I got an appointment less than 2 months after my transfer was approved. I was interviewed by a young intelligent white consular officer. Questions asked include: 1. Who petitioned for you? 2. Where was she born? 3. What work does she do? 4. How did you meet? 5. How many times has she visited after marriage? 6. Has she been married before? 7. Have I been married before? 8. Do we have any child together? 9. Where does she live when she comes to Ghana? 10. Flipping through my album, she pointed at someone and asked who he was 11. Have I ever been arrested before? 12. Who is your joint sponsor? Then came the magic words..... I WILL APPROVE YOUR VISA! 2023-05-24

We supported this request with our documents to show we are in the process of purchasing a property in the U.S. This step may have been unnecessary. (ie, we may have received the letter with the interview date around the same time even if we hadn't submitted the request) However, we felt it would be a good precaution because we had read of other cases interviewing in Chile having problems with their documents not being sent properly to the embassy, or being delayed at NVC even after having an interview scheduled. The day after we got the interview letter, we confirmed on the CEAC platform (NVC case website) that our case documents had been correctly sent to the U.S. Embassy in Santiago, Chile. Medical Exam Scheduling Note: We found the same thing that others doing the visa process from Chile have mentioned on their timelines - the only doctor in all Chile who does these exams is not easy to work with, and doesn't appear to have anyone to manage his schedule. The first time we called, he said he was busy, and could we call back in an hour. When we did so, we asked to make an appointment two weeks from now in order to attend right away when we return to Santiago after our vacation. But the doctor wouldn't let us schedule in advance! He insisted that we should just call him when we get back to Santiago. It's very strange to deal with a doctor who refuses to take appointments (I've honestly never heard of such a situation), particularly for something so important which is mandatory and also time-sensitive. This is especially weird because so many clinics in Santiago have online scheduling systems which are efficient and provide email confirmation of the appointment. It would be nice if the U.S. Embassy could work with a more professional physician instead of one who does things so informally that he can't even be bothered to schedule an appointment. 2021-03-30
