Late morning on Monday, with the help of my two grown sons, we loaded his SUV to the brim with my belongings and then set off with my sealed envelope and carefully-typed list of goods close to hand. We pulled up to a kiosk at the border around 1:15 pm. The officer saw my yellow envelope in my lap and made the mild comment "Oh someone's immigratin' today." He took both our passports, spoke on the radio briefly and then directed us to drive towards a police car in front of the POE builiding. His partner, standing beside the police car in front of the building, helpfully waved us forward. We parked in one of the slots and headed inside where an officer kindly directed us to take a seat and listen for my name. After maybe ten minutes we were called to a window where a female officer was helping a trainee male officer. They took the yellow envelope, asked how long I was in the US for, to which I pointed at my fiance and said "We're getting married," and with a nod we were directed to sit back down while our packet was examined. After maybe another ten minutes, we were called back to the window and I was fingerprinted and photographed while the officers asked about our wedding plans. In response to my question about when I should apply for my SSN, the female officer said I could apply immediately. The male trainee made small talk with my fiance about their common hometown during some final processing. After asking if we had any more questions, to which we replied "no," our passports were returned. The female officer asked if we were importing a car, which we were not. Then my fiance asked whether they wanted to check the goods in the car, to which they replied "no." The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes or so, the majority of which was waiting. The border staff were all cordial, professional and efficient and treated everyone well. Very pleasant and quick experience, no problem whatsoever. 2018-07-24

I was detained for about 15 mins while they processed the paperwork. The guy doing it was mean and grumpy but he was training another guy who was nice. The mean guy threw my passport across the counter at me at the end and made some rude comments about getting married. Other than that it was easy with no problems. They didn't search my car but I was prepared with a list of items to declare. I did pay $6.00 for the I-94. 2018-12-18
