They basically just checked we had all of the required documents, then a nice woman asked me some questions about my fiancee - how did we meet, when, what does she do for work. No trick questions, just making sure we were a real couple. Entering the US took about 30-45 minutes. Had a U-Haul truck so they searched it while I was inside with the CBP agent. He just reviewed everything inside the "do not open" package, asked me some brief questions about my fiancee, updated my passport with an I-94, and I was on my way. 2018-08-17

Appointment at 7:30 am. I assumed being early looked good and everything will be smooth sailing, have time to read over documents etc. No, they made us wait in -30'C outside until 7:33 am. I showed up at 7:00 am and another 2 gentlemen were there from 6:45 am. The officers guarding the door were inside drinking coffee and eating watching us shiver. You CAN definitely bring your cell phone. I did not bring mine, the site and building say not to, and I was a little hurt I went through so much trouble to find out they have a free safe locker for that (went the safe than sorry route). For bags they will tell you to leave outside, go back to your hotel, there's a safe locker somewhere like 15 min away. People hid their laptops and purses in the snow banks. Another fabulous thing at the interview location beside the elevators there is $3 CAD passport photo booth. Wish I knew that before I spent so much money on the passport photos. I suggest getting 6 from there for the AOS step. Once you're approved you'll need 6 more passport photos of the beneficiary. The hotel with the best deal, safest 6 min walk with an awesome restaurant connected to it is the Hotel Travelodge Montreal Centre. It also has a locker for your luggage and can stay all day free of charge after you check out. I went to pick up my luggage in the hotel locker after the approved interview. Extending the room to 2 pm was also free of charge. The interview was tops 3 minutes. Wait time inside the building was maybe 4 mins. Get to the building like 10 minutes before your interview. The way the let in the interviewees is by interview timeslot, then first come first serve for your timeslot. If it wasn't within 10 minutes they make you wait outside. I ran to my hotel (2 mins) and cranked the heat trying to thaw from being frozen so long with the biggest smile on my face!! Being approved!! It all happened so fast once you're in the building. Any organization you may have had gone out the door because they request it all in a different order and do not want to see all your well put together fancy documents. I made friends with the other cold people waiting a super long time and everyone was scatterbrained, nervous, had documents filed differently, understood what was allowed and not allowed differently. We are all fighting the same battle to be able to finally be with our loved ones. Goodluck! Bring good shoes and mittens if your appointment in Montreal is in Winter. 2020-07-23
