At the embassy, he was only asked a few questions. At the end of the interview the CO stated he was approved and would receive his passport in 6 weeks (he got placed in AP)!!! 3 Painful months later and he is finally done. I called the Department of State on September 15th and was told they responded to Cairo with the information requested the previous day (September 14th) and that I should call back every day as movement was imminent on the case. I was also told to follow up with the Consulate. The CO took another 3 weeks of "final review" before issuing the visa on October 4th. Visa arrived via DHL today. Only word of advice is to BE PATIENT. I am not a very patient person so this was extremely difficult. I contacted my Congressman last week about this visa issue so I'm not sure if that helped any but all I can say is as soon as I sent the embassy an email stating I had contacted my congressman...the visa was issued the same day.
