Interview was originally scheduled for June 18, 2024. Received ceremony cancellation notice July 12, 2024 due to room booking conflict at the DC courthouse. Received rescheduled oath date on June 27, 2024 for a July 30, 2024 oath.
Interview report:
Fairfax, VA Office - In a surprising turn of events it was a virtual interview. The officer told me it would be a combo interview, but they never called my spouse in. I had uploaded lots of evidence documents with my N400 (combining finances, taxes, leases etc.) and that seemed to have sped it up.
Interview lasted 10 minutes - civics questions first (how many senators, how long do they serve, what rights are protected in the first amendment, who is the speaker of the house, two US holidays, promise you make when becoming a citizen), confirmed address, updated a couple of errors I made on the N400 form, and asked if we had filed taxes. Done and conditionally approved pending I-751 approval - said it would take 2-3 days for the I-751 to get transferred, 2-3 weeks for approval, oath scheduling could be as fast as a couple of weeks. I let them know i was travelling all of May and they said they would shoot for June.
Immediately received biometrics reuse after filing.
Interview scheduled 59 days after filing, 30 days before three year GC anniversary.
I-751 changed to approved May 3, N400 changed to approved/oath ceremony to be scheduled on midnight May 4. |

My husband passed the test but they didn't approve him right away because for the first 3 years here, he would go back home for 5 months at a time and they needed proof that residency wasn't broken. |

I arrived at 8:15am and was called shortly. They let my husband stay in the car. The officer ended up not calling him. I have had both removing of conditions from green card and citizenship test.
He asked me for my Ukraine passport, state issued ID, green card and interview notice.
First, the officer asked me some questions about our marriage in order to complete the removal of conditions interview.
Then I have had civic test. He told me ahead if I will answer first 6 correctly this will be done.1. What led to Civil War?
2. Who is the governor of your state ( he first was concerned as I said the name of Kansas governor and he meant Missouri but because I live on Kansas side of metro area he accepted it.
3. What is the capital of your state?
4. What is the highest court in the United States?
5. What ocean is on the West Coast of the United States?
6. Before he was a president Eisenhower was a general. What was was he in?
I have answered all correctly so we moved on to reading and writing test.
Than he started to ask me questions from my N-400 application such as where do I work, did I take any trips outside of the U.S. I needed to mention all of them and tell reasons I went.
He asked me my current address and previous address. He was able to fix one mistake I made on the application.
At the end he asked a lot of Have you ever questions, etc. No definitions asked!
Then he asked me to sign on the tablet if everything is correct.
Overall the officer was very friendly and told me that I should be expecting an invitation for oath ceremony in 2-3 weeks. |
