The day I showed up was SUPER busy, so much so that instead of having 3 oath ceremonies at 11 am, 1pm and 4pm, they had to create a FOURTH one at 5:30 pm.. here is my timeline: 6/22/17 Thu 1 pm interview appointment time: ============================== 12:30 pm - arrived via PATH train and walked to Photo Loft 2 blocks away, got 4 color photos for $15 12:40 pm - walked into the Federal building, there is no concierge, I went to the 14th floor, they rerouted me to 15th 12:41 pm - checked into window 1 (handed over original appointment later) 3:20 pm - yes 2.5 hrs later my name was finally called - this was the hardest part, hoping I had not missed my name. I had nothing to eat and drink since the morning. My interview was taken by officer Maprawa. GREAT GUY! He made everyone feel at ease. He asked me the usual questions, then gave me back the N-652 Naturalization Interview Results document and the N-445 Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony document which I promptly took pictures of in the waiting room and uploaded to my cloud account 4:30 pm - they called my name finally to review the naturalization certificate made sure my name and details were listed correctly. They had me surrender my permanent resident card. 5:30 pm - oath ceremony 6:05 pm - all done --- At this point, I had planned on making copies and notarizing copies of the naturalization certificate before applying for the passport. Photo loft had closed (!!) and I had problems finding a notary. The only passport offices open late were the Manhattan 34th st PO (open until 7pm) and the Brooklyn Library Grand Army Plaza (accepts applications upto 7:30 pm) .. I made a long trip to Brooklyn only to be too late so I decided to apply for the passport locally in Jersey city the next Friday morning. Good luck and hope this helps you guys. ---- I have decided to apply for BOTH a passport card as well as a book. It is only $30 extra. I read many experiences where the expedited processing fee is not worth it ($60) so I have left it off. Also, getting both the pasport book and card protects me in case one gets lost when I have to submit the US passport to the Indian OCI application process for at least a week review. At least I will have the passport card handy while the book is submitted to OCI process. ---- I was told by my local county clerk where I applied that the state department would be mailing back the items in 3 different packages - the nat. cert, the book and the card. Today I got my usual USPS notification and after some google searches Arkansas looks like at least one of the locations where passports get mailed from. I also learnt from other people's experiences on the Internet threads that the passport card usually arrives last and the original nat. cert arrives first so I *think* this first USPS is for my original cert. Will update when received. -------- Passport Package 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Expected Delivery Date: July 13, 2017 Service Type: USPS Tracking® Shipment Activity Location Date & Time With Partner Arrived at USPS Origin Facility LITTLE ROCK, AR 72231 July 11, 2017 7:05 pm Accepted at USPS Origin Facility HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, AR 71913 July 11, 2017 5:50 pm Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS, USPS Awaiting Item July 11, 2017 Reminder: USPS Tracking® by email Date of email request: July 11, 2017 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATES =========== 1) So I received the PASSPORT BOOK first to my surprise on July 13th 2017. I'm still waiting on the original naturalization certificate and the passport card. Will update case when received. In any case, the $140 for regular processing was well worth it since the passport arrived in just 3 weeks not the 4-6 week range indicated. 2) On 7/14/17 I immediately applied for the Global Entry card ($100 per 5 years) and the APEC business travel permit ($70 per 3 years although it says the program temporary end date is Sept 2018). I will update when I have to go for the Global Entry interview (probably at Newark or the customs house near Bowling Green station NY) 3) On 7/14/17 I also applied for renunciation of India citizenship ($232) certificate. Will update as this progresses 4) On 7/15/17 I received the passport card. It came in a regular envelope not USPS mailer and thus the USPS tracking emails didn't show up. The origin city was Portsmouth, New Hampshire. ---- 7/16/17 Just an update that I also applied for an Estonian e-residency card (pickup from NYC). Cost was about $112. Will keep you updated on progress on this as well. The website says it takes about 30 days. You can google the benefits of having this (mostly if you wanted to do business in the EU). ---- UPDATES: 7/18/17 Renunciation (only) application sent via UPS to CKGS 7/19/17 Renunciation application verified at CKGS and sent to India consulate. Application under process at consulate 7/19/17 Received the original naturalization certificate back from Dept of State. The sender city was Sterling Virginia and it came in a USPS priority mail flat rate large envelope. 7/19/17 My global entry + APEC card application to US Customs and Border Patrol online status changed to "Conditionally approved". I scheduled an interview at the Newark Airport Global Entry office for August 18th. ==== 7/20/17 Estonian Police and Border Guard Board has received an application for e-Resident Digi-ID submitted ----------------- 7/21/17 Indian Citizenship Renunciation Certificate Returned to CKGS from Consulate 7/24/17 Indian Citizenship Renunciation Certificate shipped by Consulate via UPS 7/26/17 Received original India passport with cancelled stamp "applicant has acquired US citizenship" as well as the renunciation certificate Note that I did not apply for OCI yet, I will wait until my Global Entry and e-Estonia applications complete since they require US passport to be presented as well. 7/27/17 In a stroke of good luck, I was able to get an earlier Global Entry interview date at JFK New York for 7/28 - my original date was 8/18 but like others suggested I kept checking the website to see if anyone else had cancelled and sure enough got an earlier appointment. 7/28/17 Interviewed for Global Entry at JFK airport - the GOES office is right across the Central Diner (easy to miss). The officer just asked some basic questions such as address, employment, why I needed APEC card (told him it was for business use), which countries I plan to visit (I said Singapore), and then took my fingerprints -four fingers each hand, then both thumbs. That was it. Status changed to approved the same day. For maximum benefit try to apply for Global Entry one month _before_your birthday, and then choose the interview date one day _after_ your birthday. Since the card is valid upto 5 years and the end date is your birthday, effectively you can get a 6 year card if you do this. The APEC card is only valid 5 years however (from application date). Global Entry includes TSA pre-check. --------------- 8/3/17 Two weeks from original Estonian e-residency application date I received approval email: Estonian Police and Border Guard Board has granted e-Residency. You will be notified upon the document’s arrival to the place of issue marked on the application form. Waiting on a follow up email so I can pick it up from the New York Consulate. Once thats done I will resume OCI process. 8/4/17 APEC Business traveller card received (sender was JFK airport GOES office) 8/5/17 Global Entry card received (sender was US Customs Washington DC) ------------------------ 2017-08-06
