Daiz & Jon Online San Francisco CA 2020-11-30 2020-11-30 2021-02-19 2022-01-25 Yes 2022-01-25 My interview was scheduled for 8:30 am. I got there around 7:30ish and joined the queue outside. I’m not expecting to be let in as I was way too early but fortunately they let me in. Went to 2nd floor to check in and directed to proceed to the waiting room in the 3rd floor. By 7:50 my name was called. IO mentioned that she’s aware im early for my appointment and asked if I’m ready or I need more time. Of course I’m ready. She asked if I came alone and I told her yes and that my husband is at home with our son. She asked for my passport, drivers license and green card. I asked if she needs more docs from me as I have thick stack of papers/docs in my purse. She said she have all the papers that she needs in my file. We then went straight to business . I got all the questions correct . She then asked me if I need to rush home or I have time to wait for my oath that morning 😁. I had my oath at 10. 2022-01-27
Brianl56 Brian & Brian Online San Francisco CA 2020-05-24 2021-02-19 2022-05-20 Yes 2022-05-20 It was just shy of two years waiting to hear about an interview date. I got my green card based on work but after reading other people’s comments, decided that too much documentation was better. I got the interview notification letter about 1 month before the interview. I looked at a copy of my N400 and started gathering what I needed to take with me to the interview. I ended up taking too much documentation - 5 years of tax info and marriage and divorce papers for both my marriages. I also documentation on my driving record in New York State. (I got a traffic ticket in 2003 that I had forgotten to add to the N400.) The first thing I had to do once in the Officer’s office was the reading and writing English test. “The President lives in the White House.” Next was the knowledge questions. The only ones I remember were “What does the Supreme Court do?” and “Name a state that borders Mexico.” I got my 6 answers right away. I was sure, for some odd reason, I would get only the tougher questions! Then we went through the N400. The afore mentioned traffic ticket and marriage number 3 were added. After that I was told I would be recommended for citizenship and that because of covid, they were doing them every day. Did I want that? Oh yes! I had to stick around downtown San Francisco, killing time until 1 pm (interview was at 8:55 am). After waiting this long, a few more hours was nothing! Once through security again, there were 50 of us taking the Oath ceremony. You have to turn in your green card before the ceremony, which felt sort of strange since it was my constant companion when out or traveling. With the Certificate of Naturalization, you get a Passport application. Get an appointment as soon as you can to get your passport. You’ll need it to get back into the country of you go abroad. I was surprised that the only thing I had to prove I am an American citizen is sent away with the application! Also, register to vote! I also got my mail ballot for the June 7th election and it’s back in the mail. Do your part once you are a citizen :-) I checked the USCIS website that I had checked every day for 2 years. It now says, “Case closed.” Now I can obsessively check my passport status until it arrives. It has been such a long process from first having a TN visa, to getting sponsored for an H1B, to green card, and now to citizenship. Anyone who thinks you just show up and become a citizen really doesn’t have a clue! Good luck and best wishes to all of you going down this path! 2022-05-31
