My fiance and I arrived at the Grand Portage, MN POE at probably around 9 am, driving from Thunder Bay, ON. There was no one in line crossing before us, so we were waved up. The officer took our passports, asked us where we were going. I let him know that I was activating my K1 visa. He told us we were going to need to come in, kept our passports with him, and walked alongside us to where he wanted us to park. We went inside, I brought my sealed envelope in with me, and got started with a couple more officers at the counter (one of them had never processed a K1 visa before, the other was teaching him how to do it) who were processing the visa, and another one got started on importing my vehicle. They asked me a few questions, then as I was waiting, the officer that originally took our passports asked us to come out and unload the vehicle so that they could go through my belongings (this made me really sad lol. I had tetris'd everything just so into my vehicle, and itemized everything, but they said they wanted to look through it. I told him that we had two bottles of liquor, and my fiance had a prescription (he said that was all fine, just needed to go through it all regardless)). Eventually they called me back in to answer more questions about the visa and my fiance stayed with my stuff as the officer searched through it, and repacked the vehicle.
It wasn't a difficult process by any means. It was quiet in there at that time, and I think we had most of them working on the case/learning how to process it. The officer who seemed to know what was going on made sure that I knew what the next steps were and what paperwork I needed to file for AOS.
