Much easier than I expected. I had anticipated a long wait and thus booked my connecting flight with a substantial lay-over time.
However, as said, easier than expected. It wasn't too busy as my flight, which wasn't even near full, appeared to be the only one going through customs at that time. There were 7 or 8 CBP officers processing the arrivals. I had no wait time, as I was one of the first to exit the plane, and the officer was really friendly. The whole process only took like 5 minutes as she checked whether the information in the system was correct. So she asked about my intended address and a phone number where I could be reached (I gave them my wife's US phone number). After that she stamped the passport/VISA and I was officially a legal permanent resident.
So then I was stuck at O'Hare waiting 5 hours for my next flight! Not their fault of course, I was happy with the smooth sailing at the CBP.
