My experience at the JFK POE was good but long and I came out of it tired.
I landed at JFK at 1h15pm and went to the immigration waiting lines.
The airport staff directed me to visitors line when I indicated I was a K1 visa holder. After an hour and a half of waiting I was directed to the US citizens line where another staff member noticed my sealed envelope from the embassy. She redirected me in front of the line of the non-US citizens creating protests from people.
The CBP officer took my envelope and my passport. He scanned my bio page and my visa and then opened the sealed package.
He went though a massive pile of paperwork and asks question about my second passport, my fiancé’s friend and smiled at the photos we submitted in our petition.
He then took my fingerprints, a picture of me and stamped my pile of documents and my visa. He gave me a paper to retrieve my electronic I-94 and info’s about my immigrant number.
He then said we needed to go to secondary inspection office to finish the process.
While walking he asked me “ Are you sure you want to do this? There is no turning back after this”. He was playful, professional and a nice border officer.
He handed the paperwork to his colleague in secondary where I was asked to sit and wait to be called.
Another person was being grilled by an officer about his past travels movements, which created a more “border security” TV show mood.
Finally the lady officer gently called me and handed my passport and said “You have 90 days to get married, Welcome to the United States”. I came out of the secondary office at 3pm
With customs and agriculture inspection I was out at 3h15.
Good luck.
