Process was fairly quick and simple. Upon arrival at JFK, we moved towards immigration. There were various queues for US citizens and Permanent residents, and others for other nationals and visa persons. I inquired from an attendant which queue to join as i had my Immigrant visa and my Brown sealed envelope packet on me. She didnt let me join any queue, but brought me along to a room at the back where some immigration officers were. The took my passport, scanned the biometric page, scanned the immigrant visa, and took my sealed brown envelope from me. A digital facial picture of me was taken and my finger print scans were taken. i was made to sign a form and thumb print it. She confirmed if my to be us address is same as the intended address used during the processing. She then stamped my passport page with the immigrant visa and said to me welcome to America, and that, the endorsed immigrant visa serves as a temporary greencard for 1 year until i receive my Permanent green card itself through mail which could take a maximum of six months to receive or much earlier too.Whole process took less than 10 minutes.I proceeded to luggage reclaim, went through customs and through to arrivals where my wife and son were waiting for me. Finally together with my family.
