Couldn't have been any simpler.
Sitting near the front of the aircraft I was lucky to be one of the first off the flight and into customs. I mingled with other arriving passengers and the lines moved quickly (certainly more quickly than I'd ever had at LAX previously, which I was happy about).
CBP took my landing card and passport and noted my K1 visa page. He typed for a few minutes, no questions. I offered my packet and he opened it, thumbing through the pile of paper for a few seconds. He returned to typing and asked me my US address. Thumb prints and photo were taken. CBP advised they would be keeping the packet contents, handed me my passport and said 'welcome to the US'.
I was very happy since my body was on 3am time and feeling too tired to face an interview. I guess its a discretionary thing, on a case by case basis.
Interesting to note there is a second passport check just short of exiting the airport. This guy was a little more firm with his questions, especially once he noted my large amount of luggage. He asked if I was moving here and how that was possible, I showed him my visa and my stamp and he ran it through his computer before waving me off. No smile this time. Maybe this one doesn't like immigrants with lots of suitcases, who knows.
