A lady told me I could join the US passport holders line so you miss the bigger queue 
The guy at the counter opened the sealed packet (which contains your visa application and approval), typed some stuff on a computer and then walked me off to a holding room in the corner of the room. I sat waiting for about 15mins while they processed some stuff on the computer... there were about 4 other people in the room, but there were loads of chairs so guess I was there at a quiet time (Monday lunchtime).
I was called up to the desk and a different guy handed me my passport and papers... and said 'Welcome to America'.
It all took less than half an hour and was very straightforward.
