We arrived together and was told by the usher we can stay together and she sent us to the PR/Citizens line.
The first officer was a total jerk. When we went up to him, I said "Good evening" to him, and he would not say one single word to me. He kept showing me the cover of my fiancee's passport and kept slapping it lightly. I did not know what he was trying to communicate with me. I finally said "I'm sorry?", and he took my passport and customs declaration card to put on top of her passport. Then he just said "Package". As I was about to hand the package to him, he asked "You're not married, yet, are you?" I replied "No", and that's when he got loud and told us we need to go back and fill out a separate customs card for my fiancee. "You two are not family! Go fill out another card, and come back and wait in line! Come back up...ONE AT A TIME!" I apologized and left. I have no problem filling out another declaration card for my fiancee, as that's probably the correct thing to do, but the total lack of verbal communication in the beginning and just straight attitude just ticked me off.
The second officer was nice. My fiancee went up to him first as I stayed in line. Then the officer looked at me and smiled, and then motioned for me to join her. He tore open the package and looked through everything. He asked if we received the original I-129F back, but we did not. He said they usually have the original one in the envelope, but the photocopy should not pose a problem. He asked when we were getting married, and I replied that it will be during the following week. He asked if there were any questions, and that's when I asked about the I-94. He explained how to obtain it online and then said "WELCOME".
After getting our luggage, we went up to hand another officer our declaration cards. She asked if my fiancee is immigrating, and I said "That's her intent!" She laughed and said "Well, tell her it will be a big adjustment from China. Life here is much slower. Please translate that for me!" As I did, she told my fiancee "Welcome!!!" She then asked me about my job and let us through. She was very friendly.
These two officers totally were the polar opposite of the first, and I'm really glad my fiancee had a great impression from her experience at the POE, despite us having to deal with that one guy.
