After the extremely long and tedious process of the K-1 Fiance'e visa, We finally flew from my home country of South Africa into Houston(Bush International) Airport on January 16, 2013. When we flew in I thought it might take an hour or so to get through all the immigration stuff and to the other side and boy was I wrong!
I got to the guy at the immigration window and handed the officer my passport with K-1 in it as well as the sealed document that I was given in Johannesburg by the US Consulate. He then called a co-worker who escorted myself and 2 other guys to a room where we sat for 3 and a half hours waiting for them to call our names. I was hoping that they would process immigration visas seperately but it seemed like they just mixed the whole bunch together cos I saw people being scolded for not having the correct visa etc.. I was just very unhappy because they had already taken 9 months to process our K-1 and asked us all the questions under the sun so why did I need to sit for 3 and a half hours in a room. To make it worse, my fiance'e had to sit outside and wait for that whole time and I was not even allowed to make a call to let her know that I would be sitting for such a long time...her mom and friend were waiting for us outside the airport and thought that I had been deported! I just think that after the extremely long waiting period and the loads of money we have spent on flights and visa processing fees that it was really unfair that we had to go through this. Anyway, it is all said and done now and hopefully the rest of the process will not be as dragged out and inconvenient as it has been so far! Time to plan the wedding now
