First off, I traveled with my wife to make things easy for her, for me, and hopefully for the POE officers. We were directed to the U.S. citizen's line because I am a U.S. citizen. Not sure if they would have sent my wife to the Foreign Passport line. We flew business class so there was no line there at Houston.
The officer took my wife's packet and took her biometrics. Then we waited for a officer to take us to the office. The officer only took my wife to the office and requested me to wait outside...saying it was only going to take 10 minutes. (give or take it did). My wife came back with questions and asked me to speak to the officer that talked to her. So i somehow made my way to the office and asked the officer about my wife's green card, SSN, etc.
To be honest, the officer's first explanation was good. When i started to ask another question, she began to sound like a broken record...I got what i wanted to hear but kind of got into asking.
In the end, the passport was a temporary I-551 for one year. A green card is coming in the mail in 6-weeks. And if i applied my wife for a SS card, she would get it in the mail sometime after receiving the Green Card.
The only question asked by the officer to my wife was, "Why did you (my wife) come 5 days before her entry visa expired".
Overall experience was pretty good. Then again, being a good husband...I have held my wife's hand every step of the way during this process!
