I arrived to JFK approximately at 12 o'clock at night. There was a very long line to the officers' windows , because couple more planes landed at the same time.
Moreover, a lot of Russian people from our plane did not speak English at all (they came in one big group for the USA for some kind of exhibition). The waiting was ridiculously long, Russians could not communicate with the officer. Eventually he tried to find a Russian-speaking officer, but there was none. So he asked if there were English-speaking people in the line... Apparently I was the only one. So he asked me to be his interpreter for a while. I helped him with a few passengers and then he took my papers, checked all the documents in, checked things in computer and passport, stamped my passport and wrote the same number on the document. Then I was told to go the immigration area where I spent about 20 more minutes.
Everything was fine except for the wait - I spent AT LEAST 2.30 HOURS there. I got that stamp "employment authorized", which is completely useless... I still have to apply for EAD.
