A very simple, quick and easy experience. I was really quite nervous about this part as I always am when arriving to see my fiance on the VWP. I was also very concerned for our labrador, Honey at Cargo, waiting for us.
This time however, we arrived in Newark together and after reading other peoples experiences went straight to the Citizens line. The officer was very pleasant yet professional. He tore open my file and looked at my visa in my passport. Then we were escorted through to a lift and down one floor to sit in secondary passport control. As the initial officer saw us off he patted my fiance on the back and gave us a smile, which was really nice!
At secondary, there were only about 5 or so other people waiting with us. We were only sitting waiting for about 5-10 mins before I was called up and asked to complete the white I-94 card again. I told the officer that I'd already done it and the other guy must still have it so he politely apologized and asked me to fill it in again. I did so and then he just asked me when we're getting married and whether I knew what to do next. I told him 'get married within 90 days and then file for AOS'. He seemed pleased that we knew what we were doing and wished us good luck.
All in all, a far less daunting than I'd imagained and it only took abpout 15 mins from stepping off the plane to leaving the airport! Another 30 mins later we were reunited with our lab who was so happy to see us. A very stressful day in all, but I'm so glad we got through it!
