I arrive in San Francisco early in the morning (8:15am), so there wasn't a lot of people there yet. I was told to go to the visitor's counter and was served by an immigration officer in 5 minutes. He was very professional - polite and courteous. He took a look at my packet, asked a few questions and sent me on my way. There was no harassment at all.
Customs was the same too. Again, a very nice and helpful officer.
All in all, San Francisco was a pleasant experience.
