I met my fiancée in London and we both flew into the usa arriving at JFK at 22:15. We made it to the custom section and the lady directing traffic saw the brown envelope in my fiancée's hand and told us to go to the 2nd visitor's line, which was open; another person was being processed and this lady took about 10 min or so as it seemed she hadn't filled out her entry form properly; she finally made it thru, and we were next. The officer had a very stern look in his face and we both didn't dare open our mouth. Like a robot, he tore the envelope opened, proceeded to stamp different papers, write numbers in forms, and didn't say a single word as he did all this. Finally he asked: 'when is the wedding.' At that moment I wasn't expecting the question and I stuttered..."November...november....the weekend before thanksgiving..." He immediately said, 'proceed to the office on your left." Right there and then I was horrified as I thought I screwed up answering the question, as I was also expecting for my fiancée to get finger scanned or have her pic taken, but none of that happened. We proceeded to the office as indicated, and there were 2 officers there talking about basketball; the first guy took the papers and told us to sit down. We waited about 10 min and finally he called my fiancée over, and asked her, 'i can't read this writing---what's your mother's name?' She answered, and he said, 'you can go back and sit down.' We waited another 5 min, and finally he said, 'you're done,' and handed my fiancee her papers. We proceeded to get our baggage and saw that there was an EAD stamp on the back of the i-94 form, and we were happy we finally 'made it through.' The whole experience was easy; but while you're standing there waiting for the officers to do their job, I must say I was a nervous wreck.
