In Miami they let my fiancee go through the residents line with me  . Once we reached the officer, they held our paperwork up in the air and said loudly, "K1". We went to a room with no line. There were 3 officers there and it looked like a shift change. They talked about other things for a few minutes and they looked at our paperwork. They told us to hold onto the I-94 and asked no questions. It probably helps to go through together, but not everyone has the luxury of doing this.
