When Luis and I arrived at the Embassy, there was a long line to enter, but it only took about 10 minutes to get inside. If you take any electrical devices or cell phones, they will take them and give you a number to retrieve your items when you leave.

When you enter the actual consular section, you will go through a metal detector and all your bags will be searched. Then you find a place to sit, and wait to be called.

The first window we were called to, they asked for the 156, 157, and the passport. (Be sure to have 2 copies of the 156 with photos attached.) The second window we were called to, they took all of our paperwork (i.e. police certificates, medical results, I-134 with supporting documents, marriage certifcate) and our photos. Then my husband was given a brief interview in Spanish, and we were instructed to wait again.

Finally, we were called to Window 9 (although most people were called into a room for their final interview), and given a series of questions by the CO, both in English and Spanish. He asked us both what I considered a rather odd question, "Why did you choose her/him?", which neither of us answered very well because we were so nervous

But, we were approved...almost. At the very last minute, the CO noticed the name of another person in the "system" with a name extremely similar to my husband´s, who was "in big trouble" with immigration. That person is my husband´s twin brother, who was deported 5 years ago. So we were then told that in order to verify that Luis was in fact Luis, and not his twin brother, we needed to submit a full set of fingerprints to the FBI, which costs $85. This was done at the Embassy the day of our interview. Luis had his fingerprints scanned digitally, then we were given the dreaded yellow sheet (221g)

The CO said we should expect a phone call in a couple of days with the results. A week later (4 business days), I called the Embassy and found out that the results were in, and everything was fine and the visa was ready. We were instructed to send the passport to the Embassy via DHL, and that it would be returned in 2 days to the DHL closest to my husband´s home.
