Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

We got to the embassy about 15 minutes early.

It was just about 5 minutes wait in the line out front before we were called to the window.
It was really funny, because we were going there to be interviewed and the first question we were asked was at the window, "What is your business here today?"
We weren't ready to answer I guess cause we just both looked blankly at each other. Thank goodness the guy at the window helped us out.. "Maybe for a final interview for your immigrant visa?"

We were directed to the second line. 1 min later we were going through metal detectors and given the ok to cross the path over to the embassy. (BTW.. They have a new system where you put all your belongings in plastic bags before you go into the first house. I think it's really great because you don't have to wonder whether or not any of your pocket change is taken.

We go into the embassy through the 200 pound doors... And we're told to sit in the main room and wait for our number to be called.

Not too long after... We see our number. Go to window.. A lady asks for my husband's passport. She attaches the photo we sent in, quickly glances through our documents we mailed in, hands us a paper and says to go to the next window and pay.

Go to next window... Also a pleasant person... We pay, get a receipt and sit back down. (FYI You can pay cash with dollars or euros. But to use your credit card, you will be charged in dollars. No exceptions.)

About 45(?) minutes later... Another window. A woman explains the process (in german) to my husband. We get a couple more papers and a booklet.. "Welcome to the United States". Sit back down...

The last wait was the longest one. But I noticed which window was calling the immigrant visas. And watched him interview the people before us. He seemed concerned... But not interrogating. By this time my husband and I were just talking and joking around to kill the time. I saw him look at us a couple times, so I thought it was good he could see we were normal people and not suspicious.

We were called to the window... Swear to tell the truth? Yes. Ok.. How long have you known each other? Where did you meet? How? How many times have you been to the US? What were you doing in the US? A couple more personal questions and that was it! He said... Ok, everything looks good. You should get your passport and documents within 10 days. You got your visa! This is the part where I smiled so big, I think must have looked pretty stupid and I said a little, "Yay!" The guy at the window laughed at me. My husband even smiled with me, which is kind of funny because he likes to pretend not to have emotions most of the time. ;-)

So then, we skipped on out of there and waited until we got our package!

So overall, everyone was super nice, helpful and friendly. The only downfall was the waiting. We were there from 8:15-11:30ish. My advice is... If you're a real person and you have all your papers and nothing shady is going on, you have nothing to worry about! So just be honest, have your $%^# in order, and wait your turn.
