I had my interview at 10am, rang the buzzer a few minutes early, and was sent to the 5th floor. The security checked whatever stuff I had on me (very friendly!) and I was let into the consulate area with a few people in the waiting room. I was called to the first counter, gave them all the docs and was asked to wait. Was called back after a while for my fingerprints, and then had to wait again. The CO that interviewed me after a 10-15 minute wait was very friendly, asked me to sign a form and then proceeded to ask me questions, which were:
- When did you get married?
- Where did you get married?
- How did you meet?
- Which city was this in?
- What is your current occupation?
- When are you due to graduate? (I am a grad student)
- What do you plan on doing once you get to the US? (Answered 'undecided' on the DS-230)
- What does your husband do in the Navy?
- Is he attached to a squadron?
- How long will he be stationed in City X?
- Do you plan on staying in that state indefinitely?
- You were an exchange student, did you get into any trouble during that time?
I answered all questions and blabbed on for more than the CO probably was interested in hearing (I was nervous!), but she ended it with a "everything looks fine, do you think you'll be alright without your passport for a week? We'll have it sent to you with the visa on it since you don't live in Helsinki". I was more than happy with that and she wished me good luck and I was out.
The entire thing took about 45 minutes, which was not bad at all. There were several students being interviewed for J-1s, who were processed before I was, but with a different CO. The lady that interviewed me only came out when my name was called. If I remember correctly she was the one who interviewed me for my J-1 a few years ago too.
All in all, a very good experience with the best possible outcome!
