Review Topic: K1 Visa

- Left the Hotel Casa Sarita a bit late, approx 6:20AM. Our appointment 7:30AM.
- Got to the embassy approx 6:30AM, 10 minute cab ride, Cost 4,400 COL pesos, but I gave the cab driver a 5,000 COL peso bill.
- Huge line or lines outside the embassy when we arrived.
- Thanks to all here in VisaJourney, we knew where to go. We walked on the left side, grassy area, straight to the front, to line 3 which had 4 people waiting.
- After a couple of questions, the lady placed a small green stickers on our shirts with K1 hand written on it.
- Approx 6:38AM we went through security. We did not bring cell phones. X-ray machine, metal detector, take everything out of pocket, etc.. Just like going through security at an airport, except, we did not have to take our shoes off.
- After going inside, into the waiting area, we were told by the attendant to proceed straight to the front of Window 7.
- We were not given a check list by this attendant. We should have. At this point, it may be good to ask the attendant for the K1-K2 checklist if you did not get one.
- A little after 7AM, Window 7 came alive. The lady asked if we placed our documents in order according to the checklist. My fiancée said that we were not given a checklist. The lady behind the window left and brought a checklist and told my fiancée to place the required documents in order and return to the window.
- Our documents were in order, but in manila folders. The lady behind Window 7 said to remove everything from the folders. So, no folders!
- The list did not mention to include the DS-230.
- After a few minutes, my fiancée was asked to provide the certificate of Bautismo and the embassy appointment letter (a copy of the MRV payment).
- The medical examination to submit is the sealed green envelope. The rolled up and taped folder is not turned in and is a copy for the beneficiary.
- Approx 7:25AM went for some coffee in the waiting area. Remember, speakers are still hard to hear and I mean hard. You can catch the name, but the window number is hard to tell. Two other people on K VISAS went to Window 2 and got their K1's approved.
- Approx 8:49AM, heard the speaker announce for my fiancée to proceed to Window 3.
- Very simple questions were asked:
1. Who was the petitioner?
2. How we met?
3. Have she ever been married?
4. Has the petitioner been married? and How many times?
5. Have she ever been to the US?
- The person behind Window 3 said congratulations; your VISA is approved, in approx 2 weeks your VISA should arrive via DHL.
- At no time, proof of relationship was requested, nor was asked to produce the DS-230. The other lady said proof was not requested.
- Approx 8:52AM we were out of the embassy.
- There were cabs in the drop-off area. Got one and approx 9:30AM we were in our hotel.
- All embassy personnel were very friendly and courteous. We are very happy!!!
