All in all it was not so bad but I was glad to be there with my honey. We were in line a 6 am and the line started moving into the building at 6:50. Even being there that early there was about 30 people in front of us.
Went through security, sat down and then told to go upstairs. Dropped off the appointment letter and then waited. We were called to window 5 where this person took what documents were needed and gave back the rest. Only last years tax return, employer letter, I was handed back my pay stubs, other tax returns, bank statments (which they did not ever look at) or the bank letters and the only thing was the forms that were sent by the Embassy I did not have duplicates so Bert had to fill out 4 forms to have for copies. It passed the time away. He dropped them off without so now we waited and watched as others were called up.
Finally we were called. The first thing said to me was "I am glad to see you here". It was a very nice American girl and I say girl because she didn't look past 25 years old. She chatted with us a bit then said we were going to be interviewed seperately. Now my stomach was turning upside down. I went back to the sitting area and it seemed like half and hour before she called me back. Bert was sent to the sitting area and my questioning started.
When did you met him?
How did the relationship begin?
When did he propose?
Asked how old my son was?
Have they met?
When will be be getting married?
She called Bert back and asked if he was planning on going back to work in the ship and he said "heck no". Then you don't mind me cancelling your visa's. He has a seamans and a 10 year visitors visa (or had). Then she said we were approved.
I screamed and hugged him and almost knocked him over.
Thank you, thank you, thank you is all I could say.
There is an age difference between Bert and me and personally I think he would have been denied if I was not there and also having known him for almost 5 1/2 years helped out situation too.
She basically asked him the same questions but did bring up about the age difference.
All in all it was not a bad experience, just not easy on the nerves..........
