Review Topic: K1 Visa

We arrived at 0800 for our 0830 interview on 3/25/2012 and were able to go to the front of the line. Its good because it had been snowing and it was very cold. At about 0825 we entered the security checkpoint and all went well there. We then walked across to the part of the embassy where the documents are taken and the interview takes place. The new embassy is very nice and comfortable and our number was called very quickly to come to the window to present our documents. The lady at that window was very professional, smiled at us, and asked for each of the documents needed. She explained every step to me in English and then would ask my fiance' for the documents in Russian. We had all our documents in order and organized which was very helpful. She looked at all of them and then asked me to go to window 6 to pay for the visa. I did and then returned to the initial window and we finished there. At about 1115, our number was called to another window for the interview, where the consular officer was. He asked my fiance' if she could speak English, she said yes, but she preferred the interview in Russian. He smiled and said "how are you going to communicate with your husband in English if you don't use it?" He asked us to raise our right hands and he delivered the oath in English to both of us. He was very nice and here are the questions he asked (in English):

- Where does your fiance' live?
- Does he have a house or apartment?
- Does he have any children?
- Does he have any pets?
- Is it a big or little dog?
- What kind of dog is it?

My fiance' answered very well, I was so proud of her. She didnt know exactly what kind of dog I had, its a mixed breed and when she said that she wasn't sure, he smiled and asked me what kind of dog it is. I answered and we all laughed togther. He said that we had all that we needed except we have to re-submit one document (her police clearance). He assured us that after they receive this document, she will receive her visa. He explained that it was a common missed issue (the police clearance must have all, I repeat, all(!) former names on it). He explained it very well, gave her a copy of the needed information in Russian and gave me a copy of it in English. We paid for our Fedex delivery outside the embassy. I want to re- assure all of you, all of the people that work at the embassy are very nice and made us feel at ease. I want to compliment them on their professionalism and courtesy. It turned out to be a very pleasant experience for us. It was cold when we went back outside but we didnt care at that point, we're very happy and will be together soon. Good luck to all....
