Fiance arrived at 12:50 for 1:00 interview. Went through security and put his items in a locker. He was called up to an initial counter to pay and provide some preliminary documents (he couldn\'t remember which) that were outlined from packet 3. He paid $350 in bank draft. However, he found out that they DO accept credit cards and Euros. 80 Euros to $100 exchange if you pay in Euro cash. Exact change only. Then he sat down and waited.
While he waited, he could hear other people\'s interviews. He said he was appalled at how many ill-prepared people there were. People missing the fee completely, not bringing affidavit of support, missing the police cert and not bringing medical eval from authorized doctor in Blackrock. He also said, while he waited, he had conversations with two separate people who had overstayed their welcome and had to interview in order to get back in. One of them overstayed 10 years ago and wanted to go to the states to see his child and wife. The immigration officers stated they didn\'t trust him to leave after a week and that, \"you\'re never getting back in.\" Additionally, there was another man who had been trying to get into the states for 3 years but kept doing his K1 paperwork incorrectly. Fiance and I both felt thankful for VJ guidance. He had everything required. This visa process has been a long long road when you\'re apart and all you want is to be together. Nevertheless, we are so glad we followed the rules and tolerated the process because now we can be together, legally and not have to worry about looking over our shoulder for the rest of our lives. A seven month sacrifice for a lifetime of peace of mind is worth it.
Anyway, fiance was finally called. A woman...quite snippy....asked a series of questions
-when did you meet
-how many times has she (US cit) been married. He answered, then asked if she wanted to see the divorce paper. She responded, If I want it, I\'ll ask for it
-Can I see your phone records (we don\'t have them)
-who is your phone carrier
-how many hours per day do you talk on the phone (avg 2 hours)
-are you a millionaire? implying that we must spend a lot on phone costs
-do you have photos? She glanced at them (a photo collage I created in Microsoft Word with dates and locations below each picture). She wondered why we only had photos dating back to 2010 when we met in 2009. He realized he made a mistake on the dates and clarified we only met in 2010, not 09. She thanked him for clarifying and didn\'t seem bothered.
-How many times have you been to the US
-How many times has she been to Ireland?
-Where is her family from originally in Ireland?
She then said it looks like everything is here. Fiance then said, when will I find out if the Visa is approved. She said, I just told you everything is here. You\'ll get your Visa in a couple days.\"
Fiance said that everyone else was really nice. I asked him how many stars he would rate it thinking he would say maybe 3 or 4. He said 5 bc everyone was nice, he was approved and that the lady has to deal with a lot of people who don't have everything in order and that must have been frustrating.
Overall, time in the building was 2 hours 10 minutes. He also said the building was freezing cold inside. He wasn't sure if the heater was broken or they just keep it cold. He is pretty acclimated to the cold and was wearing two shirts and a sweater and was still cold.
