No matter what you read it is still nerve wracking to be finally catching the lift to the 10th floor. The guys in security are really lovely and wanted to put us at our ease. I had a file of papers with me which I was allowed to take up after they had scanned it, everything else stayed. I didn't bring much anyway.
Sat to wait our turn to go up to level 59, and where taken up really quickly. Went through the 2nd security check and then into the main room. Only just took our number and were called to the window. The clerk was a bit grumpy and curt with me which just made me feel more nervous. She asked for the things that I had been asked to bring to my interview. Handed it all over and then we sat back down. We waited about 10 minutes and were recalled to her window. I had left a question on the form unanswered and she was really grumpy about that, but fixed it anyway. Then she started asking about my son and his K2 status. As we talked she told me that what I was planning would be abusing the immigration law and that she wanted to delete him from the file, I couldn't help but get a bit teary. I think she realised that a mother's heart was involved in all this. She softened a lot and said she would leave him on and the CO would talk to me about him. Then she chatted nicely to my daughter, took our fingerprints and told me that everything looked good and the paperwork was all ok, not to worry. Then she smiled at me. Phew!
We sat back down and listened with interest to the questions others were being asked. You couldn't hear the answers, nor did I want to but I was interested in what we would be asked. After about 40 minutes our turn came up. I was amazed at how few questions we were asked, and then we were approved! The CO just clarified a few things like-
where did we meet,
where does he work
(to my daughter-) are you still in school?
Really easy compared to some of the grilling I heard others getting. Overall a good experience.
