Ankara, Turkey | Review on January 31, 2012: | Melody and Kemal
Rating: | Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
My husband was one of the first people to arrive to the embassy but was the last person interviewed so your arrival time will not affect your place in line. He waited for a few hours in a FREEEEZING COLD room... he cannot stop talking about how cold that room was!! The interviewing officer was a woman, he said she was very cold as well... she asked when we got married, about our joint sponsor (my dad), and about my pregnancy. She then asked for our red book marriage certificate. If you were married in Turkey make sure you have this with you! I had it here in the US with me and was nervous about sending it in the mail and figured we would be okay because he could get a certified copy there in Turkey. She told him to send the red book with his passport and handed him a green refusal sheet. So we just need to send those things together and should have his visa soon... just kicking myself for not sending it to begin with!! It's now in transit to Turkey and I guess it will be a couple more weeks before he has the visa... will be so happy when this is over!! Overall he DID NOT have a pleasant experience, mainly because of the cold room and not-so-friendly officer!
On a better note, due to my pregnancy our case had been expedited at the NVC and sent directly to the embassy. By the time it was in their system we had an interview date of April 10. My due date is May 10! I immediately called them and the woman on the phone was so nice and understanding, she found a cancellation on Jan 30 and got us in there. THAT was great! So at least we didn't have to wait until April. What's not so great is the fact that you only have one hour to call on Mon-Thur and if no one answers you get disconnected. You may have to call several, if not a ridiculous amount, of times to get through the line. It's possible that you may never get through and will have to try the next day.
