We arrived around 5:45 AM to the embassy. Appointment was at 6:45. Sure enough, just like the other reviews mentioned, dont pay any attention to the buscones. One lady was trying to get people to line up on the other side of the street LOL. A little after 6, the official consulate workers came out to start assisting, they were the yellow shirts with info on them. The ONLY thing we had to start out showing was the blue appointment letter. DONT LISTED TO ANYONE THAT TELLS YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING OUTSIDE!!! YOU ONLY PAY INSIDE AT A CERTAIN WINDOW. One of the yellow shirt guys took our blue letter and gave us our number. Me and my fiancee entered fairly quickly, which was close to 7 AM by then and took a seat.
The middle section of seats is where we sat to watch for the number. Looking at the pictures of all of the buscones was kind of entertaining hah. First time they called our number was to go up and turn in the required consulate documents. This included the Medical exam, the ¨DS¨ forms, birth certificate, police certificate, passport and cedula. After the middle aged man took our documents, he asked us if we were prepared to pay the visa interview fee, and he had us go over a couple of windows to pay it while he waited for us. After you pay the fee, you go back over and give the receipt to him and he tells you to go sit down untill they call your number again. About 20 minutes later we were called for fingerprinting and sat back down again. Coffee and sandwich time! The prices inside are not to bad either, they charged us 110 pesos for a sandwich and a coffee.
The next time we were called was for the actual interview, which took about 5 to 10 minutes. This was now about 10:30. The consular officer was professional looking and almost without expression, pretty much exactly like I had read about. He swore us in and had my fiancee sign her DS156k form and proceeded with the interview. He ask a few details about a previous travel visa that my fiancee had been denied. It was a visa that she applied for to visit some friends, including me, but was denied. Also asked about our wedding plans and what I did in the states. Afterward he told us that the visa was approved and that we could go pay DOMex. We selected the visa to be picked up rather than delivered after I had read all of the stories of the visas that never came hah.
A good experience all and all, we were out of there by 11. Bathrooms didn´t have soap though lol! Only one person was kind of rude for us, but I think it´s because there was a little confusion and we thought we were supposed to be taking fingerprints and really were not supposed to be at that window and he didn´t know why.
One note if you are reading this: We did see some denials, but I thought it very wierd that on all of the denials I saw, the American spouse or fiancee was not there. Why was their S.O. not there with them??? I think its good that the DR consulate recommends you come as well, what better way to see if the relation is real. So MAKE SURE YOUR SPOUSE OR FIANCEE GOES WITH YOU. Just read the instructions and make sure you are prepared, and of course that you are truthful.
