Appointment was set for 8:30am. We arrived early - 7:45am and there were only about 10 people in the waiting room. We were buzzed at around 8:10am. And were on our way back home by 8:30. We were sworn in, asked to present IDs for both of us and my social plus my visa, passport and I-94. She asked on what occasions I had entered the US with my tourist visa. The officer went through the application with a red pen, asking us our names, DOB, parents info, etc while checking it off on our file. Plus went through both our birth certificates. Asked my husband where he worked and confirmed that the co-sponsor was his sister.
She asked about my employment history since I had listed self-employed. She asked if I was currently employed and asked me to add the info of my current job (which I started 2 weeks ago).
At one point we both signed the back of a white piece of paper, dated it and gave our day time phone number - she said it was to prove that we had appeared for the interview :/
She noticed we had a different address now than from when we sent the application. She then asked to see evidence of finances and any other marriage evidence. We gave her last 6 months of bank statements, and she asked to see both our atm/debit cards. Also showed a utility bill from our previous address with both our names on it. And when she asked about a lease for our current address we explained we were living at my mother in law's and gave her the affidavits she and my sister in law signed attesting to that.
As my husband handed her the paperwork she asked me about our relationship. When and where we met - she was visibly surprised to hear we've known each other for 6 years. Asked if we'd started dating right away and I said no. Then explained when we actually starting dating.
Then she asked to see pictures and asked if she could keep some. We'd brought an album. She asked about a couple of the pictures - at the wedding who was there? She asked about our most recent trip and we felt like dorks for not bringing in print outs of the bus we took there or the admission to the museums. We basically had no paper evidence other than the pictures. As she pulled out pics from the album she put them face down on the table. She probably kept 10 of about 70 pics.
She then asked if there was anything else we wanted her to take into consideration. I told her I had just started my job so all I had were copies of paperwork I had just filed with the HR department (my first pay check doesn't come until next week). These included the w-4, health and dental insurance form, emergency contact, life insurance, and the sign up for direct deposit to our joint account.
She ended the conversation saying she would be looking into our case, that if she needed to she would contact us if she needed more info and to just wait for the decision on our case. She also explained about the conditional GC and process for ROC.
