Guangzhou, China | Review on November 8, 2011: | SamS
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
Typical first day of turning in our paperwork... It was very hot and we got there a bit early but it was not that long of a wait. In total about 4 hours the first day. The interview day dawned rainy and we decided to show up closer to the actual opening time. Still very crowded. To me it seemed like organized chaos but everyone got inside in about 30 minutes (K-1 visas near the end of the line). My fiancée was asked the following questions (in English which she chose):
Are you CCP?
Who is your petitioner?
Have you been to the US?
Which countries have you been to?
What for?
Is this your first marriage?
How many children does your fiancé have?
Do you want children?
What does your fiancé do?
Where did you learn your english?
When did you meet?
How many times did your fiancé visit you?
How long did he stay?
So overall, some very easy questions. The interview only lasted minutes and the whole process the second day was about 3.5 hours. I suggested to my fiancée to be courteous, friendly, and confident. She made sure to greet the officer and say she was pleased to meet her. I know these people deal with so many cases every day, so I'm sure they appreciate being recognized. When she told my fiancée that she had passed, my fiancée said "Thank you, you made my day". That got a laugh and she wished her a happy life in the US. We both feel we were well prepared for this and our evidence was well organized and thorough. We think that if you are prepared for this, you will not have any problems.

On a side note, I would like to recommend a wonderful restaurant for those visiting Guangzhou. It's called "Spring Restaurant" in Zhongyi City Park A, about 500 meters from the back door of the embassy. We celebrated our success there and saw some other couples doing the same.
