We arrived way early because there was no traffic. There is sorta of no place to park without getting a parking ticket so just be prepared to deal with it later on. We got there at 5:45am and were 1st in line then 10 minutes later people started arriving. There are Police & Military soldiers securing the entire neighborhood. They don't communicate so the Military soldiers moved us to a side street because they were afraid the US ambassador or someone will see the line. anyways we stayed at the side street for about an hour then they moved us back along the embassy at 7:05am. at 7:15am, An embassy employee came out and divided the lines into 2 lines (immigrant and non immigrant visas).
We were still the 1st in line, (when they moved us to the side street, some people tried to pull a fast one and cut ahead of us or ahead of other people so beware).
When you go in they will check your bags and what not they will take away your cellphones, laptops..etc. and give you a claim card so you can pick it up when you are done. then you go downstairs you will run into another person that will give you a number and might check your paperwork. we waited around 10mins until a nice and funny Egyptian lady in window#12 that checks all your paperwork and gives you some documents for DHL and to the cashier. she took my fiancee's passport and told us to go ahead and pay at the cashier and also go to the DHL desk so they can take your mailing address to mail you passport/visa if you get it.
Then we got called again to window#8 to get my fiancee's fingerprints done.it was an American lady that tried to speak a little Egyptian she was very friendly as well. it took less than 1 minute.
At that time the 2 entire waiting rooms were full to the last chair. people were racing to the empty chairs. we waited around 45 mins and then our number was called to window#13. And then a nice young American lady took out paperwork and number and started the interview. here are some of the questions she asked
- is this the 1st time you marry? (to my fiancee)
- Have you traveled to other countries before? (to my fiancee)
- How did you obtain your citizenship? (to me)
- When did you arrive to Egypt? (to me)
- How did you both meet? (to us)
- Did you come and visit her previously? (to me)
- Do you have any kids from your previous marriage? (to me)
She kept signing and stamping papers, then type a lot of things. then she would stop and talk to the lady next window then continue asking questions then type something again then ask more questions. Then she asked 2 more hard questions
- When are you planning to get married?
- and why do you want to get married in the US and not Egypt???
we had very good answers. and she replied (you will get your passport in the mail in about 7 days, congratulations) ...
we walked away ..we hugged ...we couldn't believe ourselves. finally wow.
we did get the passport exactly on the 7th day..so now we going to buy the ticket and fly.
My advice be prepared, do not be nervous, they treat nervous people VERY badly. there was an Egyptian lady sitting at window #14 she was yelling at another girl that was going for her K1 visa interview., she was saying things like "DO NOT LIE TO THE CONSULAR OK!!! MAKE SURE YOU ANSWER IN ALL HONESTY OR GOD BE WITH YOU" we were lucky we did not get that lady..pheew
